Koi tattoo

Many think that the the Koi fish originated in Persia, Eastern Asia and China. Wild carp are called Koi by many Japanese. The term itself was later applied to all carp, both wild and colored.

The Japanese now call the wild carp "magoi", and colored and inbred magoi are called Koi. Koi that are bred for color are called "Nishikigoi" which means colorful cloth (nishiki) and carp(goi). The depiction of the Koi fish is also one of the most popular and beautiful of the Japanese tattoo symbols.

Surprising to many Westerners is the large amount of ancient myth that surrounds the Koi fish and their elevated status in the Orient. Their glorious colors and color combinations may contribute to these tales. The colors include silver, gold, white, yellow, orange, black and even calico.

Some legends say that Koi fish can climb waterfalls bravely. They also say that if the fish has been caught, it will lay on the cutting board awaighting the knife without a quiver. In Koi symbolism this has been likened to a samurai warrior facing a sword.

This theme dates back to ancient China where a legend tells of how any Koi that succeeded in climbing the falls on the Yellow River at a point called Dragon Gate would be transformed into a dragon. Based on that legend the Koi became a symbol of worldly aspiration and advancement.

Eventually the fish came to be associated with so many masculine and positive qualities that it became Koi symbolism for the annual Boys' Day Festival in Japan. In this festival, colorful streaming Koi flags are traditionally displayed for each member of the family.

The various colors of the koi fish represent each of the family members. Black Koi symbolism stands for the father, the red and orange Koi symbolize the mother, blue-and-white Koi flags stand for the son and the red and pink Koi flags stand for the daughter.

In tattoo imagery, especially in combination with flowing water, the Koi fish symbolizes many of the same characteristics such as courage, the ability to attain high goals and the strength that enables one to overcome life's difficulties.

Many people are drawn to Koi fish art for the colors and meaning hidden within. Koi tattoos have become more popular in recent years. People believe that the placement of the fish on the human body is symbolic.

They think that if the Koi is swimming down the body it symbolizes that the person is trying to overcome hardship, while if it is swimming up the body it means that the person has already overcome many of the hardships in their life.

Buddhist monks say that humans "swim" through the "ocean of suffering" without fear like a fish swims through water. Thus, many people view the Koi fish as the symbol of how we should persevere in life. According to tattoo websites, Koi symbolism represents good fortune, prosperity and riches. Also the Japanese feel that the depiction of this fish on the human body represents male strength.

In Japan Koi symbolism represents perseverance in adversity and strength of purpose. The strongest Koi will swim upstream until it reaches the final waterfall where it vaults into the mists and becomes a water dragon.

Based on that legend the Koi has become a symbol of worldly aspiration and advancement. Because of its strength and determination to overcome obstacles it stands for courage and the ability to attain high goals.
Others say it means good luck and good fortune especially in China where seven golden Koi represent good luck. Another example of Koi symbolism is that the larger the Koi, the richer you are. This probably stems from the fact that large specimens are very expensive.

It has been said that if you are determined and don't conform to what society expects, you are like a Koi swimming upstream against the current. Koi symbolism represents yin and yang in ponds. Normally there is a balance of one black to nine gold.

Koi are referred to as "living jewels" or "swimming flowers". The positive attributes associated with Koi fish have made them popular choices for body art, jewelry and paintings for centuries. If you look into oriental art you'll find many beautiful examples of the Koi symbolism.

Dragonfly tattoo designs can often be given a stark tribal look, for example, that's quite masculine. They are very popular today but for many years dragonflies were condemned and revolted in the western world. The Dragonfly has always been a mystery for the west and it is often assumed to be related to which craft and black magic.

There are many myths in western folk lore where dragonflies would do nasty things to little children and they were definitely associated with the devil. In America for several centuries, dragonflies were believed to have the power to stitch closed the eyes and mouths of sleeping children. Sexy Lower Back koi fish Tattoos For Girls

Lower back tattoos were hardly seen that much prior to the 1990s, when crop tops and short shirts were trendy. Girls found out that they could showcase a great tattoo and that a lower back design increased the focus on their feminine curves and waistline. Even though it's been a decade, these sexy tattoos for girls are still going strong. In fact, they are one of the most popular tats for girls today!

Most of them are an elongated shape that is widest in the middle and tapers out to the sides. Some are a shaped like a "V" to dramatically highlight the body's natural curve. A popular choice is to get a central image surrounded by lines that branch outward. For instance, hearts, stars, butterflies, dolphins, dragons, or Celtic cross images are popular for the central focus. Vines wings, flames, or other designs that swirl and twist are popular surrounding designs. Many look kind of "tribal" in nature. For a unique twist on your lower back tattoo, it can wrap around further to the sides or even to the stomach.

Round tattoos are also a popular choice for the female lower back. This produces quite a different look, but it is still a focal point and makes an energetic statement. Generally, oblong tattoos are regarded as "sexier" or "girlier" because they do a better job of highlighting feminine curves, but the choice is up to you. Images like suns and moons are also popular.

Tattooing the lower back is a fabulous choice for a lot of reasons. First, the location offers a perfect flat canvas to work with. It's almost as if the spot was made for a tattoo. The skin back won't change much with age or weight fluctuations, so your tattoo will look great for decades and you won't have to worry about it. It's always a little suggestive to flash a tat in this location - it's like having a hidden but highly decorated piece of your skin peek out for just a second, and that's very attractive.

Girl Phoenix Tattoo

girl tattoo design differs greatly from men's designs. With women's tattoo, you can't just pick a design based solely on your personal preference. The first thing you have to look into is the tattoo meaning. A tattoo may look cool, cute or exquisite but you wouldn't want to get stuck with a tattoo that isn't significant to you. In worse cases, some people get stuck with tattoos that have negative meanings. Here are some designs that you might want to consider:
- Another female tattoo category are fantasy designs. They seem to have become even more popular these days because of famous fantasy shows and movies. Typical fantasy designs are fairies and unicorns. Other designs however may carry a more powerful meaning. The phoenix for example almost always means rebirth and rising from the ashes again.

Dragon Art Tattoo Japanese Girls

Tattoos started getting popular from the sailors that would get tattoos representing the foreign lands they had been stationed in. Wearing a dragon tattoo meant that the sailor had served in Japan or China. Sailors today are still getting tattoos and wear them proudly.

One reason the dragon tattoo is so popular is because it's long winding shape can go on practically any part of the body. You can cover your whole back with this tattoo or have it snaking and winding around your arm.

There are many different types of dragons that can be used. The Japanese have always used dragons in their art and literature so there are many designs to choose from. The most popular is the full back dragon tattoo where you have plenty of room to make it truly spectacular. The Asian dragons are usually viewed as powerful and empowered with wisdom, making these dragons very popular.

The Celtic design tattoos are also very popular with their intricate knots. The Celtic heart is often chosen for it's beauty and design.

On a man the dragon tattoos represent power, strength, and warrior skills. It can define his personality. Although you can also have a mystical, magical dragon design that makes the man more approachable.

Japanese Tattoo Designs For Girls

Hot tattoo designs would translate to exotic, dangerous, bold, and, you got it, erotic! Never, ever mix "cute" and "hot". A smiley or a butterfly would not make your man go gaga over your new tattoo design. The design needs to be strong to give out a feeling of sexiness and power.

Female Tattoo

I know about a half dozen women who have female chest tattoos and some are visible and some are not. The point I am trying to make is that when asked, four out of the six actually don't like the designs and artwork they have etched on their skin. Some of them don't like it because they rushed their decision and wished they would have taken more time to find something that fit them better, while a couple simply couldn't find any quality female chest tattoos to begin with.

Japanese Crane Tattoos - What Do They Mean

The red-crowned or Tancho crane of Japan (grus japonensis) is most easily identified by the bright red patch of skin on the top of its head, its white feather's with black-tipped edges, and its long and pointy beak. Although revered for centuries as a symbol of long life in both Japan and China, the crane itself is now an endangered species. While efforts to promote its survival are underway, its place in Asian mythology and Japanese tattoo symbolism are secure.

Japanese Crane Tattoo

Our vermillion crowns – perfect for catching the sun;
Our frosty-white wings – not to be tainted by mud,
Delighting in ponds, long can we stand there;
Looking at the moon, we have yet to roost.
Spring grasses throughout the yard – so high;
The road home to Three Mountains – so hazy.

(Excerpt from Poem II, by Liu Yu-hsi, ca. 826)

As is so often the case with Japanese tattoo symbols, we have the good fortune of being able to look to ancient China for some of the earliest evidence of their meanings. For the crane, the chief symbolic meaning has universally been long life. Although their natural lifespan in the wild averages some 30 years, they have been known to live over 60 years in captivity. Although these numbers may not seem staggering, the average life expectancy in China around 680 B.C. ranged from 22 to 35 years. Even as recently as 1955 life expectancy there was still only in the mid-forties. Perhaps inspired by their relatively long lives, cranes were thought to live not just decades but thousands of years. In Taoism, they were virtually synonymous with immortality, sometimes depicted accompanying the god of longevity, along with a deer or a tortoise.

Much of this symbolic meaning is still ascribed to the crane in Japan, where the northern island of Hokkaido is still a natural habitat for a non-migratory population of this large bird. Considered a national treasure, the image of the crane will often make an appearance at weddings where it represents not only long life but also fertility and fidelity. The dancing display, with its bows, head bobbing, leaping and calls is justly famous and is often filmed and photographed. Again, their symbolic meaning may be inspired by their actual lives, since these cranes are monogamous and may stay together for many years.

In tattoo artwork, these beautiful creatures are most often seen in the midst of larger pieces in the Japanese style, perhaps set against a swirling grey cloud, or with a pine tree (another symbol of longevity), or perhaps in pairs to emphasize their marriage symbolism. The circular version of the crane is also a popular form for this tattoo and, from time to time, you will also find the origami version as a tattoo as well – which has its own history.

According to Japanese tradition, a person who folds one thousand paper cranes is granted a wish. Folded and then strung together in multiple strands, they serve as good luck offerings for new parents and reminders of long life and marriage at weddings. Perhaps one of their more poignant uses is as a symbol of world peace, especially when left at the Sadako Sasaki memorial in Hiroshima. Two years old when the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, one mile from her home, Sadako later contracted leukemia as a result of the radiation exposure. During her hospital stay, she folded cranes earnestly, inspired by the tradition of receiving a wish, although she would ultimately die of her disease at the age of 12. Today, children worldwide learn of her story and the Japanese folded crane is the symbol of the lessons that they learn from her brief life.
